It’s time to become less dependant on your reading glasses and enjoy the little things in life once again. Imagine being able to read the morning paper, check your email, or look over your children’s homework without fumbling around looking for your glasses ever again. Conductive Keratoplasty is a possible answer.

What is Conductive Keratoplasty?

Conductive Keratoplasty, or CK for short, is an FDA approved procedure to reshape the cornea, bringing back the vision you once had. CK is radio frequency based. There are no lasers and it doesn’t require incision. A pen shaped instrument, no thicker than the width of a hair is used to heat the surface of the cornea causing the tissue to shrink and take the shape necessary for your corrected vision.

Who Qualifies for Conductive Keratoplasty?

If you are over the age of 45 and want to become less dependant on your glasses for reading, then CK may be an option for you. For more information, call Reed Vision for an appointment today.

The Procedure

CK is a procedure that is performed in our office and only takes about five minutes. Once approved for CK, the eye is numbed with an eye drop, and then the cornea is mapped out with a wash away dye using a special computer to guide the doctor. Following the map, the doctor uses a pen like tool as thin as a hair to apply radio waves in a circular motion causing the cornea to shrink.

After Conductive Keratoplasty

After CK, most patients can return to work the following day. Over the course of a month, as your eye heals, your sight will slowly improve. For 24 hours after the procedure, the patient may feel like there is a foreign object in their eye, or it may feel scratched. This feeling will go away quickly. As a precaution, dark sunglasses will have to be worn when exposed to the sun, and an antibiotic drop will have to be applied for several days.
