Stephen Y. Reed, M.D.
Dr. Reed, a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, is a native of Monroe, Michigan and graduated from Monroe High School as its youngest Valedictorian. He continued his academic excellence at the University of Michigan and was selected into Phi Beta Kappa and the Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his Glaucoma Fellowship at the Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University. He provides southeastern Michigan and northwestern Ohio with expertise in anterior segment surgery. Dr. Reed was a national VISX LASIK trainer for over 5 years. He was selected as one of the top refractive surgeons in 1999, being named a VISX Star Surgeon. He is an avid family man and enjoys sports.
Stanley L. Tao, M.D.
MPH
Dr. Tao graduated summa cum laude from an accelerated
biomedical program and received his BS-MD degree from
Albany Medical
College in New York.
During medical school, he was a Macy’s Scholar, receiving a
full scholarship to the Mailman School of Public Health at
Columbia University, graduating with a Masters of
Public Health in health policy and management in an
accelerated program.
He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Mount Sinai
School of Medicine in
New York. Dr. Tao
then moved to Memphis, Tennessee to complete an intensive
two-year vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the renowned
Vitreoretinal Foundation.
He was awarded the Robert D. Reinecke Prize for
Research in Ophthalmology, and presented at the national
symposium for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Tao
manages a wide spectrum of medical and surgical diseases of
the vitreous and retina.
He has particular interest in utilizing cutting edge
technology in surgical repair of retinal disease.
He is a member of the American Society of Retina
Specialists, American
Academy of Ophthalmology and American Medical
Association. Dr. Tao joined the Reed Vision team in the
August of 2008 specializing in Retina Ophthalmology.
Clair J. Schmidt, D.O.
Dr.
Clair Schmidt, D.O., completed a subspecialty fellowship in
Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Northwestern Feinberg School
of Medicine and the renowned Children’s Memorial Hospital
in Chicago.
Prior to obtaining her medical degree, she received a
Masters Degree from the
University
of Illinois,
Urbana Champaign, in Speech and Hearing Science, after which
she practiced Speech Pathology for four years in an
underserved area in East Central Illinois as a Medical
Speech Pathologist. In addition, Dr. Schmidt was adjunct
faculty at Eastern Illinois University
in Medical Speech Pathology.
Since
completing her fellowship, Dr. Schmidt has devoted her
professional life to treating vision issues in children, and
strabismus in both children and adults. She has been in
practice as a Pediatric Ophthalmologist in the greater Chicago area.
She has published articles in the Journal of the American Academy
of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Genetics and the Journal of
Cornea and External Diseases in issues involving Pediatric
Ophthalmology, and also published with the American
Osteopathic Association on the role of Osteopathic
manipulation in the role of drug delivery.
Dr. Schmidt is a member
of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American
Osteopathic Association, and the Illinois Osteopathic
Medical Society. Dr. Schmidt joined the Reed Vision
Team in September 2008.
Edward M. Cohn, MD, MBA, MPH
Dr. Edward M. Cohn specializes in Neuro Ophthalmology. He has more than 30 years experience in the field with patients ranging in age from a few months old to over 100. He earned his medical degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia followed by an internship in Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology residency at Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, and fellowship in Neuro Ophthalmology at Pennsylvania Hospital, which is the oldest hospital in the United States (Benjamin Franklin's hospital).
Dr. Cohn continues to further his education whenever possible. He has received a Masters degree in Public Health - Health Management and Policy as well as Masters Degree in Business –Finance from the University of Michigan. When not caring for patients or increasing his knowledge base he can be found in the company of his family.
Dianne M. Schlachter, M.D.
Dianne M. Schlachter, M.D. is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She completed her fellowship in ocular trauma and reconstructive surgery at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University, followed by an American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS®) fellowship in ophthalmic and facial plastic surgery with Consultants in Ophthalmic & Facial Plastic Surgery, P.C. in Southfield, Michigan.
Dr. Schlachter is a graduate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and also holds a Master of Science in medical research. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has authored numerous articles and abstracts. She recently authored two chapters in the newest edition of Smith’s Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, considered the leading textbook in her field.
Dr. Schlachter is interested in all areas of ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and face. In addition, she performs endoscopic forehead lifts and offers treatment with Botox® and facial fillers.
Ken N. Feinauer, O.D.
Dr. Feinauer is skilled in all optometric services, as well as, a broad personal experience in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease. Dr. Feinauer graduated cum laude with a B.S. Degree from Alma College and graduated with honors from The Michigan College of Optometry in Big Rapids, Michigan. He is a member of The Michigan Optometric Association & American Optometric Association. Dr. Feinauer enjoys patient interaction and his hobbies include reading and all forms of outdoor recreation.
Douglas E. Gillies, O.D.
Dr. Gillies is a licensed optometrist in Michigan and Ohio with diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceutical certification. He graduated from Tecumseh High School, attended Michigan State University, is a cum laude graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago and has over twenty-five years of experience in private practice. He is a Past Zone Governor of the Toledo Area Optometric Society. Dr. Gillies and his wife, Barb, have two grown children: Laurie and her husband, Matt, live in Whitehouse, Ohio; and Jeff and his wife, Chastity, live in the Columbus, Ohio area.
Robbin
W. Wagener O.D..
Dr. Wagener received her Bachelor of
Science Degree from the University of Alabama Birmingham and
her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Southern College of
Optometry in Memphis, TN. She is a member of numerous
Optometric Associations and Societies.
Dr. Wagener joined Reed Vision by Mercy in March 2008
practicing Comprehensive Ophthalmology and is experienced in
treating ocular conditions and diseases, with an emphasis on
dry-eye treatment.
Craig L. McManis, O.D.
Craig L. McManis, O.D. (or Dr. Mac as he is often called) is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Optometry. He brings a vast array of experience to Reed Vision by Mercy having been a Clinical Instructor at Indiana University after graduating and working with some of the leading cataract, LASIK, and glaucoma surgeons in the world. He has advanced his medical eye care skills significantly, especially in cataract and glaucoma care. He was part of the FDA investigation trials to obtain approval for LASIK surgery. Dr. McManis was a co-author of a journal article regarding the training of new LASIK surgeons and the success capable with the surgery.
With this background, Dr. McManis was thought to be a perfect fit into the team of doctors at Reed Vision by Mercy. He and his wife, Donna, moved to the Oregon, OH area while their children complete college.
